About

What is the Code-Sitters Club?

The Code-Sitters Club is a local baby-sitting service that also teaches kids about computer programming (i.e. coding).

What exactly is provided by the Code Sitters Club?

We provide traditional baby-sitting services, but with the added value of educating your kids about programming at the same time!

At what age can/should kids start to learn computer programming?

We believe it's never too early to learn about programming (and technology in general)! Having said that, we feel that our services are a better fit for kids between the ages of 6 - 12.

What exactly will we be teaching the kids?

It depends on the age and experience of the kid. Typically with younger, less experienced kids, we start by teaching them Scratch or Snap. For older, more experienced kids, we try to teach them HTML/CSS, Javscript, and Python. Every kid is different though, so we can adjust our teachings accordingly.

How will we know that the kids have actually learned something during the session?

Whether we build projects together, or play games that teach programming, we'll have your kids show you what they worked on at the end of each session. Also, at the end of each session, our code-sitters will write-up a detailed report of how the time was spent, and what programming concepts were covered over the course of the lesson.

How can we be sure the kids will pay attention and/or enjoy the experience?

We have experienced sitters that tailor each lesson to best match the interests of the kids. Most kids prefer learning through games, so we use proven resources like Code Combat that teach programming concepts in the context of a computer game. Other kids prefer designing their own websites, and learning how to build applications. We are so confident that your child will enjoy learning how to code, that if you or your child isn't 100% satisfied with their code-sitting experience, we will refund you 50%.

What is the hourly rate?

It depends on the amount of kids: 1 kid = $20/hr , 2 kids = $25/hr , and 3+ kids = $30/hr

Who provides the computer to work on?

Each code sitter will bring their own laptop and tablet for the kids to work on. The only thing we need from you is an internet connection!
